To provide effective and efficient operation, maintenance, and construction activities on energized or de-energized lines. To perform, in a safe and effective manner, all tasks associated with construction, maintenance, and operation of the electrical system. To be constantly alert and aware of the hazards involved in the work being performed and to be thoroughly trained in the art of administering First Aid.

Within the limits of the Cooperative’s established policies and procedures:

  • Keep fully informed of established and accepted construction and maintenance practices.
  • Participate as a member of the construction or maintenance crew and perform all assignments and duties of a Journeyman Lineman/woman.
  • Have the ability to climb by use of climbers and body belt (approximate weight of equipment and tools: 40 lbs.), poles and/or structures as job requires.
  • Lift weights, both on the ground and aloft, from 20 lbs. to 100 lbs. Work hot line tools from the pole at distances 6-8 feet from the work being performed.
  • Ability to perform aerial rescue from the pole.
  • Knowledge and ability to use all tools, devices, vehicles, materials and equipment common to the line craft.
  • Perform any and all work connected with the maintenance, operation, and construction of electrical facilities in an efficient manner.
  • Assume supervision duties of a foreman and is responsible for the safety of personnel connected with the job. Be aware of possible public liability and property damage.
  • Posses and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A
  • Have capability of installing and reading test meters in the field.
  • Sectionalize and switch according to authorized operating procedures.
  • Patrol, when required, and record findings of needed maintenance.
  • Locate and correct cause of service interruptions.
  • Operate substations, regulators and capacitors, when authorized.
  • Do line work on energized conductors in accordance with National and State Electrical and Safety Codes.
  • Install transformer banks, regulator banks, and sectionalizing equipment.
  • Assist in conducting voltage and load surveys.
  • Check meter sockets for proper voltage when installing or changing meters.
  • Operate all cooperative vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Have a working knowledge of National and state Electrical Codes, National and State Safety Codes, REA specifications, and other applicable regulations
  • Available for alternating Standby schedule which includes weekends, holidays and overtime.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.



  • Per Union Contract: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Journeyman License through International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
  • Flaggers Card, CPR, First Aid and Blood borne pathogens cards.
  • Hyster card and CDL Certificate.
  • “Pole Top Rescue” and able to climb 20 to 30 poles per day
  • Understanding of 29 CFR 1910.269 Subpart R OSHA regulations
  • Experience in operating Bucket Trucks, Digger Derrick, Operate forklifts, chain saw, and automobile.

Time Requirements:

  • This is a full-time position. Monday-Thursday 7:00am - 5:30pm. CCEC works a 4/10 schedule. This position may require overtime, weekends and holidays during storm outages.

Working Conditions:

This position requires you stand and walk most of your workday while sitting very little. Also required are repetitive movements of your hands, arms and shoulders to finger, handle or feel various items. Up to 2/3 or more of your time you may be required to climb or balance yourself. In addition, up to 2/3 or more of your time may require you to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The position requires you to work in wet, extreme weather, often with high winds, up to 2/3 or more of the workday. This position exposes the employee to the possibility of electrical shock at high voltages.
