Primary Purpose

The Disbursement Accountant position is responsible for the payment of goods and services purchased by the Cooperative and the disbursement of capital credits to members. The role also serves as an auditor, ensuring that invoices are accurate and that proper accounting procedures are followed for the purchasing and payment of goods and services.

Accounts Payable 50%

  1. Processes invoices and payment requests using an accounting software system.
  2. Processes check requests, ensuring all appropriate approvals have been received.
  3. Processes accounts receivable refund, general fund, and capital credit checks.
  4. Prepare monthly board expense reports for Board meetings.
  5. Maintain records and prepare, process and file annual 1099 reporting.
  6. Reconcile monthly vendor statements.
  7. Reviews open invoices, packing slips and purchase orders in order to ensure timely processing.
  8. Coordinates with Controller, department managers, and others on additions, changes, or adjustments to invoices, purchase orders and payment requests.
  9. Reviews outstanding checks periodically for stale dated items and performs any necessary follow-up actions.

Capital Credit Coordination 30%

  1. Maintains cooperative records of capital credits and assists members with capital credit inquiries.
  2. Manages bad debt recovery in capital credit system.
  3. Responsible for keeping accurate records of allocation, distribution, and transfer of ownership of capital credits.
  4. Maintains, processes, and files unclaimed property reports with appropriate state agencies.
  5. Reviews outstanding checks periodically for stale dated items and performs any necessary follow-up actions.

Other Duties 20%

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, 10-key calculator/adding machine, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, boxes of files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and typical work hours are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative operates on a four/ten work schedule.

Travel

Ability to travel to the different district offices required. Occasional travel to training seminars and/or conferences.

Qualifications

  1. Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field preferred. Relevant experience may substitute education requirements.
  2. Minimum one year of related professional experience required.
  3. Rural electric cooperative experience preferred.
  4. Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurability.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Strong MS Office Suite skills.
  2. Reliable transportation for getting to work.
  3. Must be free from illegal drugs; may be subject to random and /or suspicion testing.
